I had a good time on Catalina! Went to Two Harbors for the first time (think I preferred it to Avalon, tbh!), had me a buffalo milk (oh god all the shit they put in it ffs), and apparently when it comes to diving, I still got it. My pop dropped his goggles and snorkel off the back of the boat from where we were anchored off the beach and I volunteered to go get 'em coz they were new and expensive and I like me a challenge. There was about 20' of visibility and they were in about 30 of water, and with the help of a 7' pole with a hooky thing at the end, I nabbed em.

It's funny how our knee-jerk fear of water has everything to do with not being able to see the bottom, usually. I still get a little nervous in open water where I don't know the depth even though I'm a sea monkey and know how to not drown in sticky situations. But as soon as you know where the bottom is, it's suddenly not so scary anymore!

I always figured that the esani had some of that fear of open water too - they're a species that likes to stick close to the "ground" and know what's under them. Even though they don't have to be scared of falling, you could say that most of em do have a fear of heights. :P
